Kinja'd!!!

I’ve stopped with the building of the computers the most extreme components a while back but I chuckled at this one on Imgur. I should post pictures of my Voodoo and Matrox cards.

Ha!

EDIT: at some point, folks are just going to start patching into their home’s AC system to cool their PCs.

Also, did you hear about those guys who got DOOM to run at over 1,000 fps by pouring liquid nitrogen on the motherboard while overclocking an 8 core cpu to 6.6 ghz ??

Madness.

Yeah, while I am disappointed with the RAM on the 3070, I’m a lot more pleased with the 220W TDP. Very much a fan of quiet/silent computing and I think these 300W+ components are unlikely to be a fit for that. Currently I’ve got this chunky thing (and had previously only used passively cooled cars going back to 2007 or so) :

Even that since like not enough to keep these new cards cooled quietly.

It was over a decade ago when I built for power with a dual Xeon motherboard before they had dual core chips. My current computer is built for maximum quiet; noise insulated case, every fan, drive, etc on silicon rubber standoffs.

This is the mid-tier model, right?  The top cards are cooled with outdoor home AC compressors.

I almost got into the liquid cooling geekiness but I aged out - now I’m for practical which means fast enough and quiet is more important. And I stopped playing games

The liquid nitrogen is nuts. Hadn’t heard of that. That’d be cool (ha!) in a technical sense if they got the N2 to run in tubes for permanent cooling.

Madness - yes.  Stretching the limits - very cool.

No they literally just poured it on the running PC.......

Yep, I don’t have any drives, and all my fans ( except for those on the GPU) are  slow spinning 140 or 120mm units set to spin as low as possible until things get over 50C. I was worried about the GPU, but it is silent at idle, and quiet enough at load that I haven’t tried to chase down an aftermarket cooler (though I did pay a significant premium to get the one with the largest available cooler when I got it).

I'd like to see someone SLI a couple of those bad boys.

Similar philosophy. I do have a CD/BD mechanical drive but that’s it . My fans are similar; large and slow . GPU is not much, went for low price, GTX 1060.

That’d be funny. Even if you know a bit about computers, at first glance, that pic seems almost reasonable for a graphics card.

Like ben n454 suggests, if you SLI those, you don’t need the AC compressors.

Those aren’t strong enough these days, with PCs running kW power supplies and all.  Needs meat locker. The fans will provide all the convection cooling.
